In November of this year, the construction of the first container hub on the Caspian Sea coast began in the Mangistau region, which will increase the capacity of the Aktau port to 240 thousand TEU per year. The project is being implemented by the Lianyungang Port State Corporation together with the Aktau Sea Trade Port.
This project will enhance the country's position in the international logistics system and expand the potential of the transport and logistics sector.
The implementation of the hub will increase the transportation of containers in the Trans-Caspian direction through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and reorient part of the transit cargo coming from China to Europe.
Currently, land management work is underway. More than 20 units of special equipment are involved in the site.
It should be noted that to date, the indicator for container transportation via sea ports has increased by 84% and amounted to 58 thousand TEU, while the growth of container transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) is noted by 2.7 times.
The specified work is planned to be completed in mid-2025.
