Member of the House of Lords of Great Britain, Speaker of the Lords for Rehabilitation and Probation Mike Herman gave a lecture to students of the Eurasian National University.

Lord Mike Herman spoke about his development as a politician, shared his impressions of Kazakhstan, thoughts on the importance of education, spoke about the legislative process of Great Britain, the functions of the British Parliament and much more.

“The job of a politician is to improve the life of society. My job is to create and change laws, decide how our country's budget, which is formed through citizens' taxes, will be spent and, ultimately, decide how to make people's lives better,” the speaker noted.
A member of the House of Lords of Great Britain shared his impressions during a visit to Kazakhstan.

“In world history, it is known that connections between the East and the West were carried out through the Silk Road. The history of your country is based on the movement of people, goods and services between the East and the West. The Silk Road retains its importance today. Your main advantage is the ability to connect the two sides. I believe that strengthening our relations is of great importance,” the lecturer emphasized.

Addressing the youth, Lord Mike Herman urged them to learn not only to gain knowledge, but also to be able to use it, developing the ability to think strategically and critically. He also added that the youth of Kazakhstan should have a vision and the necessary skills to make decisions that will determine the future of the country.

The guest also answered students' questions about the probation service, the potential of Central Asian countries, the scientific priorities of the UK and shared advice on how to become a successful politician.

At the end of the meeting, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization of ENU Duman Aitmagambetov announced the decision to award Mike Herman, a member of the House of Lords of Great Britain, the title of Honorary Professor of L.N. Gumilyov ENU.
