Abay National Theatre to Debut in Singapore

20 January 2026

The ballet company of the Abay Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre is set to make its debut performance in Singapore. The tour will take place from January 23 to 25, 2026, at the NUS University Cultural Centre.

The theatre will present a two-part program. The first half, titled "Masterpieces of Classical Ballet," will feature highlights from Swan Lake (Adagio), La Sylphide, and Don Quixote. The second half will showcase the one-act ballet Carmen Suite, choreographed by Alberto Alonso to the music of Rodion Shchedrin based on themes by Georges Bizet. Carmen Suite explores profound themes of passion, freedom, and destiny, and is regarded as one of the most iconic works in the history of world choreography.
