The results of the initial selection stage for the National Pavilion of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the 61st Venice Biennale have been announced.
A total of 17 project proposals were submitted, 12 of which met the eligibility criteria. Based on the jury’s evaluations, three finalists have been selected:
Concept: "QONGYR: Archive of Silence" Curator: Syrlybek Bekbotayev
Concept: "Qoñyr" Curators: Assel Akhmetzhanova, Assel Mukasheva, and Malika Urazgaliyeva
Concept: "Songs of Water Bodies" Curators: Aigerim Kapar and Assyl Ikhashova
All three finalists advanced to the second stage of the competition, which involved an online session with the jury. The final selection will be made on January 9, determining the sole project that will represent Kazakhstan at the 61st Venice Biennale.
The Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aida Balayeva, serves as the Commissioner of the National Pavilion in her capacity as Deputy Prime Minister.
