Kazakhstan's Population Reaches 20.4 Million

As of December 1, 2025, Kazakhstan's population stood at 20,478,879 people, according to data released by the Bureau of National Statistics and reported by Egemen.kz.

At the beginning of 2025, the country's population was recorded at 20,283,399. Consequently, the total population growth over the first 11 months of the year amounted to 195,480 people.

By early December, the urban population reached 13,013,064 (an increase of 239,949 since the start of the year), while the rural population was estimated at 7,465,815 (a decrease of 44,469).

As of December 1, 2025, the Republic continues to have three cities with populations exceeding one million. Almaty’s population is 2,345,012, Astana’s is 1,630,640, and Shymkent’s is 1,291,011.

In addition, several regions maintain populations of over one million:

  • Turkistan Region: 2,148,168

  • Almaty Region: 1,592,652

  • Zhambyl Region: 1,215,892

  • Karaganda Region: 1,131,438
