Astana. November 1. KazTAG – Team Kazakhstan took third place in the overall standings at the 3rd Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain, according to the press service of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“The Kazakh national team has concluded its participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, which took place from October 22 to 31 in Manama, Bahrain. Based on the results, our team ranked third overall, winning a total of 93 medals — 24 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze. China topped the standings with 147 medals (63 gold, 49 silver, and 35 bronze), while Uzbekistan came in second with 81 medals (37 gold, 16 silver, and 28 bronze),” the statement said on Saturday.
Kazakh athletes competed in more than 20 sports, achieving not only podium finishes but also record-breaking results.
“Weightlifter Alikhan Askerbay set multiple new records — in both the snatch and the clean and jerk, he established new world, Asian, and Asian Youth Games records. Track and field athlete Maksim Sazhnev, swimmer Aleksandr Rumynskiy, and weightlifter Nurzhan Zhumabay also set new Asian Youth Games records. Boxing brought Kazakhstan the most gold medals — five in total. Judokas earned four golds, while weightlifters added three. The national team also broke its own record for total medals won. At the 2009 Asian Youth Games in Singapore, Kazakhstan won 14 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze; 8th place overall), and at the 2013 Games in Nanjing, China — 13 medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 8 bronze; 13th place),” the NOC noted.
