The forum dedicated to healthcare, sustainable development, and medical tourism—one of the most promising sectors for Kazakhstan—has commenced in Astana. The event brought together representatives of government bodies, international organisations, medical centers, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, and around 30 embassies.
In his welcoming remarks, Erbol Myrzabosynov stated:
“Kazakhstan has all the necessary conditions to become a regional center for medical and wellness tourism. To achieve this, it is essential to introduce unified standards for servicing foreign patients, strengthen cooperation between clinics and tour operators, and promote the country as a reliable destination for treatment and recovery,” emphasized the minister.
The minister noted that in 2023, the number of foreign patients in Astana increased fourfold compared to 2022, and doubled again in 2024, demonstrating the growing interest in Kazakhstan’s healthcare services and the high quality of medical care provided.
“Just a few years ago, we spoke about the potential of medical tourism in Kazakhstan. Today, we can confidently say that this potential has become a reality. Over the past five years, the overall tourist flow has increased more than fivefold, accompanied by a sharp rise in medical tourism. Kazakhstan is becoming a new center of medical tourism on the world map. The most rapid growth is observed from China (24 times), India (40 times), and Türkiye (3 times). Kazakhstan is steadily strengthening its image as a country offering high-quality medical services at affordable prices,” noted Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova in her opening remarks.
To foster the development of medical tourism and strengthen cross-sectoral cooperation, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Health.
The forum featured thematic sessions on creating a healthy urban environment, developing mass sports, promoting healthy lifestyles, and advancing educational initiatives. Participants paid particular attention to the establishment of the Network of Healthy Cities of Kazakhstan.
Following the forum, Minister of Tourism and Sports Erbol Myrzabosynov and Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova toured an exhibition showcasing the country’s leading medical centers and organizations, which presented innovative technologies and achievements in domestic medicine.
