In Aktau, within the framework of the International Film Festival of the Turkic World “Korkyt Ata”, the State Centre for Support of National Cinema of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed memorandums of cooperation with national film organisations of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.
These agreements are part of a broader effort to strengthen collaboration within the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) and are aimed at reinforcing the cultural unity of Turkic nations through cinematography that reflects shared values and historical heritage.
The memorandum with the Azerbaijan Film Agency covers a wide range of areas, including joint production of feature, documentary, and animated films, organisation of master classes and workshops, and cooperation in the fields of translation and dubbing. Among the priority themes are friendship among people, mutual understanding, and the preservation of cultural ties.
The agreement with the Department of Cinematography, under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, provides for the support of projects aimed at strengthening humanitarian and cultural connections. To this end, it foresees the creation of conditions for joint film production, including cooperation in technology and professional exchanges.
The memorandum signed by the Oguz Khan Turkmenfilm Association under the State Committee of Turkmenistan focuses on the development of co-productions and creative exchanges, emphasising the cultural ties between Aktau and Ashgabat, and promoting the musical heritage of the Turkic peoples.
The agreement with the General Directorate of Cinema of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye provides for the launch of joint film projects aimed at fostering cultural dialogue and mutual understanding between the countries. Cooperation in the field of cinematography will include support for co-productions, exchange of creative experience, strengthening of humanitarian ties, and promotion of film tourism.
The memorandum signed with the Agency of Cinematography under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan focuses on developing joint projects to strengthen interethnic ties and preserve cultural heritage. Particular attention within this cooperation will be devoted to themes related to Turkestan, Samarkand, and the era of Amir Temur. One of the first initiatives in this area will be the launch of the feature-documentary film “Tall as the Pamir Mountains”, dedicated to the friendship between the prominent Kazakh writer Mukhtar Auezov and the founder of Uzbek prose Abdullah Qodiriy. Through the stories of these two literary figures, the film will celebrate the friendship and brotherhood of the Uzbek and Kazakh peoples.
Earlier, within the framework of the Cannes Film Festival, the Center signed memorandums of cooperation with the national film centers of France and Georgia. A documentary film “The Tale of Sea Dogs”, co-produced with Thailand, is currently in production. The feature film “Winners Are Seen at the Start”, created in international co-production with France, the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Sweden, has been presented at leading international film festivals.
