Astana, December 3-4, 2024 – The meetings of the Special Working Group and the Senior Officials Committee of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) were held under the chairmanship of Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Talgat Kaliyev.
Participants exchanged views on the organization's draft Charter, developed under the Kazakh chairmanship, and discussed draft documents to be submitted for consideration by the CICA Council of Foreign Ministers. They also reviewed a report by Secretary General Kairat Sarybay on the Secretariat's activities over the past year. They deliberated on coordination and co-coordination within the priority areas of CICA's dimensions.
Following the meetings, the senior officials approved the Action Plan on Confidence Building Measures and the Secretariat's budget for 2025, and authorized the Secretariat to further work on strengthening external relations with organizations such as the SCO, EAEU, ESCAP and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office.
Additionally, participants reviewed applications from third countries seeking observer status in CICA.
