From September 24 to 28, 2025, the city of Cheonan (Republic of Korea) is hosting the Cheonan World Dance Festival 2025 — one of the largest international forums that brings together dance ensembles from across the globe. Renowned for its scale and vibrant diversity of cultures, the festival transforms Cheonan into the world capital of dance during these days.
Kazakhstan is represented at the festival by the artists of the Astana Ballet Theater. They will perform excerpts from the national divertissement “Heritage of the Great Steppe” — the theater’s signature production that has captivated audiences both in Kazakhstan and abroad. The aesthetics, spectacle, richness of costumes, and profound meaning of Kazakh choreography evoke genuine admiration among viewers worldwide.
“Heritage of the Great Steppe” is a choreographic narrative about the beauty and multifaceted nature of Kazakh culture. The program features lyrical and contemplative compositions, dynamic and expressive miniatures, as well as performances imbued with philosophical imagery. The folk costumes make a particularly strong impression — bright and multilayered, with intricate ornamentation and refined details. Each costume embodies ancient traditions, symbolic patterns, and natural motifs that reflect nomadic culture.
The participation of Astana Ballet Theater in the Cheonan World Dance Festival 2025 holds special significance for the development of international cultural cooperation. Performing at such a global event provides an opportunity to showcase the centuries-old heritage of Kazakh culture to a broad audience, strengthen mutual understanding between nations, and highlight dance as a universal language that unites people.
