A closed screening of “QAITADAN”, the debut feature film by director Duman Yerkimbek, took place in Astana. This is the first film in the disaster genre in the history of Kazakh cinema.
The film tells the story of Rauan, a selfish city youth taken by his parents to the village on the eve of an important sports competition. Planning to spend only one day there, he suddenly finds himself trapped in a time loop where events repeat over and over. In search of an escape, Rauan witnesses a large-scale disaster that turns his life upside down.
Greeting the audience, Chairman of the Committee on Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Dakenov, noted that the film is a philosophical story addressing important themes — the generational gap, mistakes of the past, and the search for a new path.
The project won the 2023 pitching competition and was produced with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information and the State Center for Support of National Cinema.
It should be noted that over the past six years, with the support of the Center, 118 domestic films have been produced. Kazakh films have participated in more than 280 international festivals and have won 157 awards, confirming the dynamic development of national cinema.
“QAITADAN” will be released nationwide on September 4.
