Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the “SCO Plus” Summit, held under the motto “Implementing Multilateralism, Ensuring Regional Security, and Promoting Sustainable Development”, Kazinform reports citing Akorda.
The President emphasized that under China’s chairmanship, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has significantly strengthened its position within the international community.
According to the Head of State, the “SCO Plus” format, launched last year in Astana, has seamlessly integrated into the SCO’s broader agenda, increased the interest of many countries in the Organization, and has become a venue for productive exchanges of views on pressing contemporary issues.
“This is extremely important given the alarming global trends, which are well known to everyone present here. There is no need to repeat them. The only point I would like to stress is the correlation between the causes and consequences of the current situation: the lack of mutual trust, responsibility for the future of world order, as well as the underestimation of multilateral diplomacy and the potential of international organizations. Yet another conclusion is also evident: no country is capable of coping with modern challenges on its own. In these complex circumstances, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in my view, must focus on a constructive and positive agenda, develop strategic objectives aimed at resolving conflicts, launching broad dialogue in defense of peace, and ensuring sustainable development of states,” the President said.
