Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek and Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic Baktyyar Orozov visited the branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) in Bishkek.
The meeting was attended by KazNU Board Member – Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Margulan Ibraimov, Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlan Omurov, as well as Director of the KazNU branch Zhamin Sheishenov.
The ministers familiarised themselves with the history of the branch, its current activities and development prospects, and toured research and educational facilities. During the visit, the parties discussed issues of academic exchange, implementation of joint scientific projects, and the expansion of cooperation in the field of education.
The Bishkek branch of KazNU was officially opened on May 26, 2022, with the participation of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov.
During the meeting, the ministers presented specific proposals and addressed initiatives for future implementation. In his remarks, Minister Sayasat Nurbek emphasized:
"The regional mission and integration of KazNU are a tangible result of the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Our joint efforts to provide the youth of both countries with quality education and to enhance scientific potential will lead to significant achievements in the future."
Currently, the branch offers 12 undergraduate and specialized master’s degree programs. The most popular areas of study include Law, Management, Computer Engineering, and Foreign Philology. Approximately 750 students are currently enrolled at the branch, and more than 630 applicants have been admitted for the 2025–2026 academic year. Classes are conducted in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
"The KazNU branch in Bishkek is an important platform for providing our youth with high-quality, modern education. Our main goal is to prepare competitive specialists for the labor market. In this regard, we will continue to strengthen our strategic partnership with Kazakhstan and pursue the harmonization of educational standards," said Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic Baktyyar Orozov.
It should be noted that KazNU’s international branches are also successfully operating in Istanbul (Türkiye) and Omsk (Russia).
The Bishkek branch of KazNU serves as an important bridge bringing the educational spheres of the two countries closer together.
