Osh, August 20, 2025 – On the eve of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Kyrgyz Republic, a ceremony was held to mark the opening of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in the city of Osh.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yermukhambet Konuspayev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Asein Isaev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in Osh Region Elchibek Zhantaev, Mayor of Osh Jenishbek Toktorbaev, as well as representatives of Kyrgyz civil society and the business community.
In his remarks, Mr. Konuspayev emphasized that the establishment of the Consulate General in the region is a highly significant event, symbolizing the steadfastness and inviolability of the good-neighborly and fraternal relations between the two countries.
“Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are not merely neighbors but close partners and allies, united by common values and a shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in Central Asia. Today, Kazakh-Kyrgyz cooperation is characterized by a dynamic and multifaceted interaction. Thanks to the political will of our Heads of State and regular high-level contacts, an exemplary model of interstate cooperation has been established between our countries,” noted the Deputy Minister.
In this regard, Mr. Konuspayev expressed confidence that the opening of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Osh will serve as another important step towards further strengthening the fraternal ties between the countries and their peoples.
For his part, Mr. Isaev stressed that the inauguration of Kazakhstan’s Consulate General in Osh is an important confirmation of the deepening alliance between the two fraternal nations, which will undoubtedly provide new impetus to strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation in multiple spheres.
Mayor of Osh Mr. Toktorbaev, in his address, announced that in honor of the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayuly, one of the city’s streets will be named after him.
The consular district of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan will cover the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions, where about 3,000 citizens of Kazakhstan currently reside.
Osh, with a population of approximately 500,000, is the second-largest city in Kyrgyzstan, playing an important administrative, economic, and cultural role as the center of the country’s southern region.
