Over 150 Events to Take Place Nationwide in Celebration of Sports Day

Every year, Kazakhstan marks Sports Day on the third Sunday of August. This year, around 150 sports events will be held across all regions of the country to mark the occasion.

With the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, large-scale activities will be organised nationwide. In the capital’s Longevity Centre, table tennis and chess competitions for pensioners will take place, while the Saryarka velodrome will host competitions among employees of regional sports departments. In Almaty, the programme will feature a city para-table tennis tournament, as well as several events for young athletes, including an open Greco-Roman wrestling tournament, a judo championship, an open kazakh kuresi championship, a city championship in asyk atu, and karate demonstrations at the city’s Central Stadium dedicated to Sports Day.

In Shymkent, the Metallurg sports school will host competitions for city sports organisation staff, while Al-Farabi District will hold championships in lenggi tebu, asyk atu, rope jumping, and target ball throwing.

In the Abai Region, regional youth championships in asyk atu, football, and judo are planned. The West Kazakhstan Region will host a city togyzkumalak tournament for children and teenagers, as well as an awards ceremony for athletes of the Zhanaarka District. The region will also open a fitness and wellness centre for persons with special needs as part of the celebrations.

The Karaganda Region will stage the regional summer “Arai” Spartakiad among cities, while the Pavlodar Region will host youth competitions in archery and streetball. The East Kazakhstan Region will hold the XXIII People’s Sports Games; the Ulytau Region will host an awards ceremony for athletes in Zhezkazgan; and the Zhetysu Region will organise tournaments for teenagers in basketball, volleyball, and football.

In the village of Zhana Talap in the Atyrau Region, a new sports complex will be inaugurated alongside a ceremonial event by the Athletes with Disabilities Club. An open day will be held at School No. 3 of the Aktobe Regional Youth Sports School, as well as at the football and aquatic sports schools. In the Turkistan Region, a national chess tournament will be held in Kentau to mark the city’s 70th anniversary. In the Akmola and Zhambyl Regions, a range of sports activities for youth, adolescents, and local residents will take place in all districts.

In the Kyzylorda Region’s Öner Centre, a large-scale festive event will honour veterans, industry professionals, coaches, and athletes who have contributed to the development of sport, along with sports demonstrations.

Special attention this year will be given to sports veterans. The central event will be the first “Sports Veterans Forum” in the capital, organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, with support from regional departments. In Almaty, a togyzkumalak tournament for veterans and city residents will be held; Pavlodar will host a cycling race for veterans; West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions will hold meetings with veteran athletes; and Zhambyl and Turkistan regions will organise award ceremonies to congratulate sports veterans on their professional holiday.
