Kazakh Tazy Debuts at the World Dog Show 2025 in Helsinki

12 August 2025

On August 8, in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, the official world premiere of the “Kazakh Tazy” breed took place within the framework of the World Dog Show 2025, held under the auspices of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI).

The Kazakh delegation was represented by eight tazys, selected according to strict criteria and prepared to participate in international competitions. Among 25,000 dogs from all over the world, our dogs made their debut as an independent breed officially recognized by the FCI.

The results of their participation proved to be a significant achievement: five Kazakh tazys won prize placements in their respective rings. The title of “2025 Junior World Champion” was awarded to a tazy named Tamerlan; “World Champion” went to Lashin; “World Champion (female)” to Aru; “Vice World Champion” to Kökserek; and “Vice World Champion (female)” to Pana.

In addition, Lashin and Aru received the titles of “Champion of Finland” in their respective categories.

Kazakhstan’s presentation attracted considerable interest among participants and visitors to the exhibition. The national pavilion, designed in the shape of a half-yurt and decorated with traditional attributes, became one of the event’s most popular venues. Guests took photographs with the dogs, learned about the breed’s history, and became acquainted with its distinctive traits.

Experts from the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan spoke about the origin of the tazy, its characteristic features, unique working qualities, and the reasons why this breed is considered a national treasure and one of the Seven Treasures of the Kazakh people.

Efforts to preserve and promote the tazy are being carried out on the instructions of the Head of State and, since August 2022, have been under the patronage of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the past three years, extensive work has been undertaken jointly with the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan:

In August 2023, the UCK became a full member of the FCI and obtained the right to represent national breeds.

In May 2024, a specialty dog show was held in Astana, during which the FCI commission examined 100 tazys.

On September 3, 2024, a decision was made in Amsterdam to grant preliminary recognition to the “Kazakh Tazy” breed and to assign Kazakhstan the status of official holder of the breed standard.

Full recognition is expected no earlier than 2034, provided the breed continues to develop and actively participates in international competitions. The performance at the World Dog Show 2025 and the official presentation of the tazy in Helsinki represent important milestones on this path.
