The Asian Weightlifting Championships for juniors, boys, and girls concluded in Astana — a prestigious continental tournament hosted by Kazakhstan for the first time in 12 years.
The event brought together more than 300 of the strongest young athletes from 25 Asian countries, aged between 14 and 20. Kazakhstan was represented by the largest delegation — 29 athletes.
President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Yousef Al-Mana, praised the tournament’s organization:
“We are pleased that the Asian Youth Championships are being held in Kazakhstan. This not only recognizes the host country’s capabilities but also reaffirms Asia’s status as the strongest weightlifting continent at the Olympic Games.”
Kazakhstan ranked first in the overall medal standings.
12 gold, 4 silver, 7 bronze medals.
9 gold, 8 silver, 10 bronze medals.
Several Asian and world records were set.
Alihan Askerbai (U20, up to 71 kg): 3 gold medals, 6 records (3 world, 3 Asian); total: 310 kg.
Yedyge Emberdy (U20, up to 79 kg): snatch — 153 kg, clean and jerk — 194 kg (Asian record); total — 347 kg.
Nurzhan Zhumabai (U17, up to 79 kg): 3 gold medals; clean and jerk — 175 kg (Asian record); total — 315 kg.
Denis Poluboyarinov (U20, up to 94 kg): absolute champion; total — 376 kg, clean and jerk — 213 kg (Asian record).
Kseniya Prozorova (U17, up to 58 kg): 3 gold medals, ahead of athletes from China and Uzbekistan.
Kira Danilova (U17, up to 69 kg): 3 gold medals; total — 198 kg.
Yerasyl Saulebekov (U20, up to 88 kg): 3 gold medals; total — 344 kg.
This championship has become a significant milestone on the road to the international stage and the 2028 Olympic Games.
