President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended his congratulations to media professionals on the upcoming Media Workers’ Day, emphasizing the role of national media as the voice of the people and journalists as conduits for constructive ideas, Egemen.kz reports.
“You serve as a bridge between society and the state, helping the public understand government policies and conveying the essence of ongoing reforms. This is important, demanding, and highly responsible work—one not suited to just anyone. I sincerely thank you all for your efforts.
As you are aware, our country has undergone major transformations in recent years. Significant national initiatives have been launched. Three years ago, a nationwide referendum led to the adoption of a renewed Constitution. We undertook historic steps to reform the political system. The principle of a ‘Strong President — Influential Parliament — Accountable Government’ has been firmly established. The powers of representative bodies have been expanded, and the accountability of the executive branch has increased.
In accordance with the Constitution, all branches of power have been restructured. Direct elections of rural and district akims have begun. A new generation of political leaders is emerging. Citizens are taking a more active role in shaping key government decisions. A culture of pluralism has taken root in society, and we are moving toward a civil society where everyone has the right to express their views within the bounds of the law. A fundamentally new political identity is taking shape. The concept of law and order has become an integral part of public consciousness,” the Head of State noted.
President Tokayev also highlighted the positive impact of reforms on the economy.
“In the first five months of this year, compared to the same period last year, the national economy grew by 6%. The manufacturing sector also expanded by nearly 6%. Over the past five years, the country’s GDP has increased from $182 billion to $286 billion. This was achieved through economic diversification. Positive trends are visible across various sectors. Most importantly, the national mindset is evolving. A new civil and political culture is emerging in Kazakhstan, underpinned by the strengthening of new values.
The younger generation is being raised in the spirit of integrity, characteristic of responsible citizenship. Concrete steps are being taken to uphold the rule of law. The nationwide campaign “Taza Kazakhstan” (Clean Kazakhstan) has become a truly popular initiative. Citizens are actively involved in this shared endeavor, promoting the principle: ‘Clean nature — pure intentions.’ In this way, Kazakhstan is beginning to take shape as a state of a new format.
To be clean means to be pure in both thought and action. We must become a nation with a progressive mindset. To join the ranks of the world’s leading countries, we must act in unison. United as one, we will undoubtedly achieve our goals. In this shared undertaking, the journalistic community plays a pivotal role. It is no exaggeration to say that you are a driving force of reform. Ultimately, both government and the press serve the people. Our country has a clear vision and a noble goal — to build a Just, Safe, Civilized, and Clean Kazakhstan,” the President stated.
The Head of State also cautioned against complacency, citing the deteriorating global geopolitical and geo-economic environment.
“The global security architecture is undergoing profound change. Tensions are escalating between major powers, and armed conflicts are intensifying in certain regions. Complex processes are unfolding on the international stage, requiring deep and nuanced understanding. The fundamental principles of international law are becoming increasingly blurred. The rule of force is gaining prominence.
The global digital transformation is presenting humanity with unprecedented challenges. The world has entered a new era. Artificial intelligence is becoming a critical factor in a nation’s development. We must fully grasp the magnitude of the coming changes. To keep pace with global progress, we must actively introduce innovations across all sectors. As President, I attach great importance to this.
The spread of AI technologies imposes new demands on all professions, including journalism. Many experts predict that in the future, human labor will be replaced by algorithms. However, these changes also open up new opportunities for journalism — in essence, a second wind. Neural networks are already proving to be effective tools for gathering and analyzing information to create original content.
Kazakhstani journalists have always been distinguished by their creativity, commitment to innovation, and professional growth. I am confident that you will make full use of these new technologies. All necessary conditions for the development of the media sector — including the blogosphere — have been established in our country.
You bear a great responsibility for the timely and accurate coverage of events. It is essential to understand the weight of this responsibility,” Tokayev emphasized.
