On June 16, 2025, the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the opening of the exhibition “Silk and the Silk Road: From China to Kazakhstan.” The ceremonial event was attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov, and a Chinese delegation led by China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Sun Yeli.
The exhibition opening was part of the official launch of the Year of Chinese Tourism in Kazakhstan.
The exhibition is based on the collection of the China National Silk Museum and showcases the art of silk painting, which originated in China. It symbolizes the exchange and mutual enrichment of Eastern and Western cultures enabled by the Great Silk Road and reflects a modern creative interpretation of China’s heritage of silk painting.
The exhibition aims to strengthen cultural and tourism cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, promote the historical legacy of the Silk Road, and highlight the influence of Chinese silk art and trade traditions on the territory of Kazakhstan.
As part of the event, a bilateral meeting took place between the Ministers of Culture of Kazakhstan and China. The parties discussed the results of their joint activities and reviewed upcoming initiatives aimed at deepening cultural dialogue between the two countries.
Minister Aida Balayeva noted that thanks to intensive high-level political dialogue, the partnership between the two nations has gained strong momentum and continues to foster new achievements in the cultural sphere.
In particular, she highlighted the nearing completion of the joint project to establish cultural centers in Astana and Beijing (on a reciprocal basis), the successful holding of the Media Cooperation Forum, the presentation of Xi Jinping’s book, and a symposium on public administration. She also mentioned the opening of an exhibition of masterpieces from the National Museum of China at the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts, the "Chinese Rhapsody" concert dedicated to the 120th anniversary of composer Xian Xinghai within the Operalia International Festival, and several other cultural events.
In conclusion, Aida Balayeva emphasized Kazakhstan’s strong interest in organizing joint exhibitions, tours, and theatrical and musical performances aimed at strengthening friendship and enhancing bilateral relations.
