Kazakhstan Gains Access to China’s Largest Green Technology Database

16 June 2025

The International Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (ICGTIP) and the Shanghai Center for Science and Technology Exchange have signed a strategic cooperation agreement granting Kazakhstan direct access to one of Asia’s largest green technology platforms — the Green Technology Bank.

The agreement marks a significant step forward in strengthening scientific and technological dialogue between Kazakhstan and China, opening up broad opportunities for the accelerated integration of advanced environmental solutions into Kazakhstan’s economy. Kazakhstani enterprises, research centers, and startups will now be able to utilize technological developments from China’s database, including innovations in renewable energy, water resource management, waste processing, agroecology, and other key areas.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Shanghai Center for Science and Technology Exchange has committed to providing the Kazakh side with access to the Green Technology Bank’s technology database and expert network. Furthermore, the agreement includes the annual organization of joint events involving Kazakhstani companies — such as roadshows, forums, and business missions — with the potential for financial support from the Chinese side. A separate component of the cooperation will focus on a systematic assessment and support of twenty priority green projects in Kazakhstan: experts will participate in developing action plans and offer recommendations on adapting technologies to local market conditions and regulatory requirements.

Acting Chairman of the ICGTIP Board, Saken Kalkamanov, emphasized the strategic importance of the signed agreement:

“Kazakhstan now has direct access to the expertise and solutions of one of the global leaders in green technology. This lays a solid foundation for the rapid deployment of environmental innovations, the attraction of investment, and the advancement of technological partnerships. We view this as a strategic tool for building a sustainable future for our country.”

Both parties expressed confidence that the agreement will not only strengthen bilateral cooperation under global initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative but will also serve as a practical mechanism for Kazakhstan’s integration into the international green agenda — through knowledge exchange, the opening of new markets, and the launch of joint projects.
