Kazakhstani judoka Abiba Abuzhakynova has claimed a silver medal at the World Judo Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.
Competing in the under 48-kilogram weight category, Abuzhakynova advanced to the final, where she faced Italy’s Assunta Scutto.
In the decisive bout, the Italian athlete secured victory with an ippon, resulting in a silver medal finish for Abuzhakynova.
Notably, Abuzhakynova became the first Kazakh woman to reach the final of a World Judo Championship. This marks her third career medal at the world level, having previously won two bronze medals.
Additionally, on June 13, Magzhan Shamshadin had a chance to secure a medal in the under 60-kilogram weight category. However, he was defeated in the repechage round by Hungarian judoka Marton Andrasi.
