Song Young-hoon, a professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) and Director of the Central Asian Research Institute, has been awarded the Order of Friendship (Dostyk) II Degree. The decoration ceremony took place during the official visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Republic of Korea.

Professor Son has taught the Kazakh language to Korean students for more than two decades. In addition to teaching, he actively researches Kazakhstan's history and culture, introducing South Korean society to the traditions and civilization of the Great Steppe. According to the scholar, mastering the language is essential for gaining a profound understanding of nomadic civilization and serves as a vital cultural bridge connecting both nations.

During the ceremony, President Tokayev commended the professor’s long-standing dedication, highlighting his exceptional memory and fluent command of Kazakh.

The Order of Dostyk is awarded for contributions to strengthening bilateral relations, mutual trust, and cooperation in trade, science, and cultural-humanitarian affairs. Alongside Professor Son, the Class II award was presented to:
— Maeng Sung-kyu — Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea;
— Lee Jae-kang — Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea;
— Lee Sang-gyun — President of Seoul Cyber University;
— Kim Boo-seop — Medical Director of Hyundae General Hospital.
