On May 29, 2026, the City of Astana hosted an international research-to-practice seminar titled "Diaspora Policy and Historical Heritage: The Future of Korean-Kazakhstani Cooperation through the Prism of the Association of Ethnic Koreans," organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This large-scale event was timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the Korean diaspora living in Kazakhstan. The solemn gathering was attended by members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, leaders of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan and the Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan, representatives of the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA) of the Republic of Korea and "Otandastar Qory" NJSC, as well as representatives of the domestic and foreign scientific community.
During the seminar, Alibek Zhurkadam, Vice President of "Otandastar Qory" NJSC, delivered an insightful report, in which he presented the key areas of the organization's activities, the experience of establishing ties with compatriots abroad, and the strategic projects currently being implemented.
Lee Myung-jae, Secretary of the Overseas Koreans Agency of the Republic of Korea, noted that today more than 122,000 representatives of the Korean nationality live in peace and harmony on the territory of Kazakhstan.
The seminar participants highly praised the role of the Korean diaspora as a "golden bridge" between the two states and expressed their readiness to further deepen cultural, humanitarian, and scientific cooperation.
