Kazakh youth living in Prague organized a poetry evening titled "Zhyrlaidy Zhurek" (The Heart Sings) to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Kazakh poet Mukagali Makataev.
The literary event took place on February 7, ahead of the poet's birthday, and was organized by Darina Zhumagul, head of the Qazaq Nomad organization (the legal representative of the Kazakh diaspora in the Czech Republic), and Shynar Manapkyzy, a Kazakh language teacher in Prague. The significance of the evening was enhanced by its venue—a historic building on Old Town Square in central Prague, the birthplace of King Charles IV of Bohemia—providing a unique spiritual atmosphere.
The event was attended by students studying in the Czech Republic and young Kazakh professionals from various fields. The performances by youth working in IT, economics, and business were on par with professional theater actors, earning warm applause from the audience. Their passionate recitations and sincere emotions deeply moved everyone present.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to a Czech citizen, Štěpán Pazderka, who supported the bilingual format of the evening and served as the Czech-language host. Both parties expressed their intention to collaborate on future cultural projects.
Nearly fifty people attended the event. Guests included fellow citizens, Czech nationals interested in Kazakh culture, international families, and fans of the famous singer Dimash Kudaibergen. The program, originally planned for one hour, drew such great interest that participants stayed long after the event to share their impressions.
Even those who did not speak Kazakh were able to sense the profound meaning of the poems through the speakers' intonation and acting skills. The organizers expressed confidence that this cultural initiative will continue to thrive in Prague in the future.
