The leader of the Kazakhstan judo team, Yeldos Smetov, clinched the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as reported by Olympic.kz.
Smetov advanced to the final in the -60 kg weight category. In the main bout on the tatami, he faced Frenchman Luka Mkheidze, the bronze medalist from Tokyo 2020.
Smetov won in the decisive contest. He scored a point, maintaining this advantage until the end of the match, thereby securing the top spot on the podium.
It should be noted that this marks Yeldos Smetov's third Olympic medal in his career. He claimed silver in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and bronze in Tokyo (2020), becoming the first Kazakh judoka to reach Olympic glory.
