Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tamara Duysenova responded to a request from a Mazhilis deputy regarding changing the name of the intellectual game “Togyzkumalak,” Kazinform agency reports.
— There are precedents in the world when the same games or things can be found under different names in different languages. For example, the British call it “football”, the Italians call it “calcio”, and the Americans call it “soccer”. If we take chess, one of the intellectual games, then in some countries it is called “shatran”, in other countries it is called “chess”, and thirdly “chess,” noted Tamara Duysenova.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that in the works of A. Krasnov, N. Pantusov, B. Kuftin, R. Karuts, M. Balakaev, A. Akshoraev, S. Amanzholov, S. Tileubaev and many other scientists, as well as in the works of M. Auezov this game is called “Togyzkumalak”.
“In addition, changing the name of the game “Togyzkumalak” is not within the competence of the federation or other organizations. Considering the above, we believe that the name of the game “Togyzkumalak,” which is the cultural heritage of a people with a thousand-year history, is better left as it is,” explained Tamara Duysenova.
Earlier, Mazhilis deputy Guldara Nurumova proposed changing the name of the game “togyzkumalak” to “togyzat”.
Let us remind you that togyzkumalak can be included in the school curriculum in Kazakhstan.
