On July 10, 2025, the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan hosted the grand opening of the international exhibition “Ancient Turkestan and the Legacy of Yassawi”, organized by the National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Äziret Sultan”.
The exhibition features unique archaeological discoveries and cultural artifacts related to the history of ancient Turkestan — a key center along the Great Silk Road. Special attention is given to the life and legacy of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, an outstanding 12th-century philosopher, poet, and Sufi thinker who had a profound influence on the spiritual culture of the entire Turkic world.
Organized in accordance with the instruction of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to promote the heritage of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the exhibition presents rare items from settlements and burial mounds of the Turkestan oasis, handwritten works by Yassawi and his followers, as well as medieval numismatic relics, ceramic artifacts, architectural elements, and photo materials illustrating the appearance of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, constructed by order of Emir Timur.
Visitors will also learn about the influence of Yassawi's teachings on the Muslim communities of the Volga and Ural regions, including the spiritual leader Hussein-Bek — a 14th-century qadi buried in a mausoleum located in what is now Bashkortostan.
The exhibition will run until August 3, 2025.
