QS experts emphasize the importance of advancing scientific research, participating in international research initiatives, and ensuring long-term career prospects for graduates. According to QS Senior Vice President Ben Sowter, Kazakhstani universities are showing positive momentum across key performance indicators, confirming their commitment to achieving international standards.
QS Regional Director Sergey Khristolyubov notes that in recent years, a clear divide has emerged between two groups of universities. One-third of institutions are successfully implementing strategies aimed at transforming into world-class universities, while others are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain their positions amid growing competition. In this context, human resources, research engagement, and international cooperation play a particularly crucial role.
Among Asian countries, Kazakhstan ranks 10th in terms of the number of universities represented in the QS World University Rankings 2026. The regional leaders are China (72 universities), India (54), and Japan (47).
