Aidana Yerimbet is a native of the Turkestan region, from a large family. The girl is an ethno-designer, develops and promotes national art. Her work was exhibited at Dubai Design Week. Foreigners became interested in the work of the Kazakh designer; in particular, a request was received from Qatar. Aidana Yerimbet spoke about how Kazakh art can be developed and promoted in a conversation with a Kazinform agency correspondent.

— Due to the fact that our father was a civil servant, we lived in a number of cities in our country. Now I live in Astana. I studied at general education and art schools. After ninth grade, on the advice of her father, she entered the Polytechnic College in Astana to major in interior design. My father said that, in addition to creativity, I would discover other talents. After graduating from college, I had two options: the first was to enter Shabyt University, the second was to work and study by correspondence to become an architect. After college, I worked in a studio in the capital, when I gained experience, I wanted my own studio,” said Aidana Yerimbet.

Since childhood, Aidana has been interested in drawing and design.

-I have also been familiar with ethno-design since childhood. Until the seventh grade, I studied Kazakh dances and always listened to folk songs and kyuis. Therefore, national art was absorbed into me from childhood. While studying in college, my coursework and diploma work were related to interiors with a Kazakh flavor. When I started working, I was assigned such projects because it is close to me. Over time, they began to recognize me in the field of ethnic interior design, and I started my own business. Ornament, images of shanyrak, horses can be used, for example, in fashion, interior design, and other graphic areas. But this is an easy association, and my goal is a deeper use of national color through the study of traditions, history, culture and art, that is, the implementation of meaningful projects. In addition, the national style can be linked to history, human origins, the heritage of ancestors, products and objects,” says the designer.

According to her, in the field of ethno-interior and design, through the appropriate use of images of a yurt, stone sculptures and petroglyphs, Kazakh art can be developed and promoted.

- I was tasked with developing an interior design for VIP rooms in a hotel; national style can also be used there. For example, if we look at history, Kazakh khans, sultans and rich people lived in beautiful yurts, dressed in national clothes, and used arts and crafts. I made the top part of the bed in the VIP rooms in the form of a khan’s throne, and it turned out great. In addition, national color and style can be successfully used in public places. Now ethno-design is developing, so it is better for each thing to be special, unique, says A. Yerimbet.

As the designer reported, products and objects in ethno-design are beginning to be in demand.

- Especially household items, that is, furniture - tables, chairs, dishes, lamps and more. I also noticed that now every family wants at least one thing in the Kazakh style in the house. I can’t call it a trend, but there is a trend. The spread of ethno-design and its development with the help of national art begins with ourselves, says A. Yerimbet.

In addition, the designer shared her thoughts about the high cost of products in the national style.

- I think that national products should cost more. In addition, now a mass market has appeared under the name of the national style. Sometimes these products and objects do not differ from each other. If we really want to develop ethno-design, then this will require a lot of work and creative search. My mission is not only to make things in the national style, sell them and make money, but also to modernize various types of applied art that are beginning to be forgotten - while preserving ethno-design. We make things in the national style using ancient technologies. This requires skill and time. Another circumstance is that our ethnic design items are produced in limited quantities. In addition, we invest our own money in the manufacture of products in the national style, without the support of the state or investors,” says Aidana Yerimbet.
